CenORT participated in the educational workshop "Tourism, Massification, and Sustainability", held on May 9 and 10 in Bajina Bašta at the premises of Tara National Park. The workshop included lectures on the following topics: "Sustainable Tourism – What’s Next?", "Tourism and the Local Community in Bajina Bašta – Partnership for a Sustainable Future", and "The Importance of Natural and Mountain Areas for Tourism." The lectures were delivered by CenORT team members – Prof. Dr. Jovan Popesku, Prof. Dr. Danijel Pavlović, and Prof. Dr. Maja Bratić.
The workshop was organized by the Network of Development Initiatives Logosfera in cooperation with the Belgrade Open School, through the EU for You support program. The goal of the workshop was to strengthen the capacities of local communities for the sustainable management of natural resources and the development of tourism in line with sustainability principles. CenORT made a significant contribution to the lectures and overall workshop through its ongoing support of sustainable tourism development initiatives.
The workshop was attended by key tourism stakeholders in Bajina Bašta, including representatives of the municipality, Tara National Park, entrepreneurs, local residents, and others. The discussions focused on understanding the impacts of mass tourism on the area of Bajina Bašta and Tara National Park, improving tourism products, and exploring the economic, socio-cultural, and environmental aspects of sustainability, as well as the active involvement of local residents in decision-making processes. Special emphasis was placed on the formation of a Sustainable Tourism Council and the economic benefits that tourism can bring through broader socio-economic well-being in the region.
